Fashion can be understood by everyone, you can speak any language and still understand the message you convey with your clothes.
The purpose of this blog is to promote fashion through a PR lens. I will be analyzing how different brands, from small to luxury, convey their message successfully or unsuccessfully. And how different influencers and celebrities impact fashion trends.
Ever since I was a little girl I have been experimenting with different styles from wearing a metallic gold mini skirt in pre-school to now faux diamond-encrusted heels. I have always had a sense of fascination with bold, eye-catching pieces. Although some choices may be too bold for the time, most often it sets a ripple effect in fashion trends. For example, the Penny Lane fur coat was described as dingy only two years ago but is now one of the most coveted jackets for fall and winter. Staying ahead of trends and keeping a close eye on the successful or unsuccessful rebranding of designer clothes is one of my favorite hobbies.
My obsession with designer items started when I was 9 years old. I would visit my dad who worked in the financial district of San Francisco and catch glimpses of women strutting confidently with a Chanel Boy Bag in hand. The iconic diamond-quilted leather and two gold Cs that create the push lock hold an immense amount of detail and history. The quality and status of the bag are unmatched and set it apart from other leather goods. These choices cause a ripple effect in the world of fashion from Valentino choosing a specific color of pink to Christian Dior using newsprint. This makes a statement about yourself and an image you present to the world.
In 2018, I started a small clothing brand, Jeunesse Clothing, that focuses on youth’s awareness of mental health. Along with creating the designs, I started a website for the brand that included thorough research on the pros and cons of using social media. I provided research and data on how one’s mental health can be affected by social media including surveys from high school students about their use of social media.
Using skills I learned from creating a clothing brand, I started a TikTok account focusing on Grand Theft Auto with over 50 thousand followers, one of the highest followed women GTA accounts. By analyzing current trends, I was able to garner over a million views. I succeeded at creating a community of gamers from all around the world and of different genders. I used my platform to help normalize women playing video games and collaborated with and promoted other brands.
I will be using the strategies I learned from Jeunesse Clothing and my TikTok account to garner my target audience. I will provide stories on up-and-coming trends and how different fashion choices, whether business or creatively, impact choices for consumers.
